High-Pressure Drain & Sewer Jetting in Navarre, FL
By another name, hydro jetting is the process of using a powerful stream of water to put a thorough cleaning on your sewer and drain lines. We are talking about pressures in the 1,500 to 3,500 psi range. A professional will not be content to simply cut a path through a clog; the hydro jet is designed to scour the pipe wall and wash the interior back to the sides, stripping away sludge, mineral deposits, grease, and any other debris that has made its way into the line.
For kitchen and commercial waste lines with a lot of grease and buildup, it is hard to beat. You will see it used often in restaurants for this very reason.
If stoppages are a habit due to material that has been accumulating over time as opposed to one foreign object, hydro jetting can get at long-term buildup on the pipe wall where a small cutter or snake would only make a puncture.
When an edge-to-edge clean is required. The right nozzle and equipment will ensure the walls are addressed and not just a channel through the blockage.
That said, there are times when hydro jetting is not the answer. We do not generally recommend it for older cast iron, pipes with bellies, or any system with serious structural plumbing issues. In such instances, you are better off with a trench repair, pipe replacement, or other methods.
The Kind of Service to Expect From a Pro
Inspection comes first. A plumber will want to run a camera to see the inside of the drain and sewer lines and locate the obstruction before and after the work is done.
Making sure the machine, nozzle, and head are matched to the diameter of the pipe. A small rented unit is no match for what we bring and may only punch a hole in the problem rather than cleaning it properly.
A follow-up with the camera. This is to verify the line is clear and to spot any defects the jetting could not remedy, like a main with a belly or a collapsed section.
Dealing with roots. Tree root intrusion is a frequent culprit for whole-house stoppages. While a mechanical cutter head can take care of the roots, persistent growth is something that calls for line repair or replacement, not just jetting.
Why Sewers and Drains Come to a Standstill
Kitchen grease and congealed fats coating the pipe. This is the primary use case for our drain cleaning and hydro jetting.
Intrusion from tree roots, particularly in older systems where the trees are close to the sewer line.
Things that should not be flushed. “Flushable” wipes are notorious for not breaking down and snagging on pipe buildup, as is the sediment and sludge in a slow drain.
What It Won’t Fix and What to Do About It
Hydro jetting is excellent for clearing blockages and washing away buildup, but it cannot put a broken, corroded or displaced pipe back together. Should a camera reveal cracked cast iron or recurring breaks in the main, the recommendation will be to replace or do a trench repair. For septic systems, a separate service in Navarre may be called for to deal with tank or field matters.
Steps to Avoid Trouble Down the Road
Keep non-flushable items and wipes out of the toilet. Most problems start with materials that refuse to dissolve.
If you have a history of stoppages, have a professional run some diagnostics. Camera work and perhaps a hydrostatic test can get to the root cause.
Homeowners and businesses can stave off future blockages with regular drain cleaning. It also makes sense to remove or relocate any trees that are causing re-growth in the pipes and to have the compromised sections repaired.
Responding to an Emergency
Whether it is a leak, a sewage backup or a complete stoppage, swift action is the best way to limit property damage. Turn the water off, open a pressure relief valve if you can and don’t run any more fixtures. Then get in touch with a reliable plumber in the Navarre area to protect the main connection and prevent flooding. The good companies here will advise you on when to shut things down and call for help.
The Riptide Way of Doing Things
We pair the right method with a camera inspection. That means mechanical cutting for hard blockages and roots, and our professional hydro jetting for the heavy grease and sludge.
We look at the age and material of the pipe. If it is old cast iron, we will steer clear of high-pressure jetting to avoid making a structural problem worse and suggest a repair instead.
Our technicians will let you know if a mechanical snake is all that is needed or if you require hydro jetting. Once we are done, a final camera pass confirms the results and gives you a straight diagnosis of any issues left standing.
